Largest Listed Companies in Mexico by Market Cap
Founded in 1894, the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV) in Mexico City is the second-largest stock exchange in Latin America, trailing only Brazil’s B3. Around 140 companies are listed on the BMV, with a smaller number also trading on Mexico’s second exchange, BIVA (Bolsa Institucional de Valores). The benchmark S&P/BMV IPC index tracks the 35 largest and most liquid stocks on the exchange.
The largest listed companies in Mexico span several distinct sectors:
- Mining & Materials: Grupo México (copper mining, rail logistics), Industrias Peñoles, and Fresnillo (precious metals).
- Telecommunications: América Móvil, which operates Latin America’s largest mobile network through its Telcel and Claro subsidiaries.
- Consumer Staples & Retail: Walmart de México (Walmex) — the country’s leading retail chain — alongside FEMSA, known for its OXXO convenience stores and status as the world’s largest independent Coca-Cola bottling group.
- Financials: Grupo Financiero Banorte, established in 1899, one of Mexico’s largest banking groups.
- Food & Beverages: Coca-Cola FEMSA, the largest franchise bottler of Coca-Cola products by volume, and Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest bakery company, founded in 1945.
All Mexican companies on the BMV trade in Mexican Pesos (MXN), and the exchange is supervised by the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV).
