Magnificent 7 Stocks: Complete List & Market Performance

Bank of America analyst Michael Hartnett coined the term “Magnificent 7” — a nod to the 1960 Western film directed by John Sturges — to describe seven mega-cap stocks that have come to dominate major indices like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite. All seven have, at one point, reached market capitalizations of about $1 trillion or more, and as a group they have grown larger than the equity markets of entire countries.

The Magnificent 7 stocks largely replaced the earlier FAANG grouping, swapping out Netflix and adding Nvidia, Tesla, and Microsoft. They span three S&P 500 GICS sectors — Information Technology, Consumer Discretionary, and Communication Services:

  • Apple (AAPL) — the first of the seven to go public, back in 1980. Makes phones, computers, tablets, smartwatches, and runs Apple Music and Beats.
  • Microsoft (MSFT) — the world’s largest software company, known for Windows, Azure cloud services, LinkedIn, Office, and Xbox.
  • Nvidia (NVDA) — went public in 1999 and designs high-end graphics processors and AI chips.
  • Amazon (AMZN) — founded as an online bookstore in 1994, now one of the largest online retailers, cloud providers (AWS), and owner of Whole Foods.
  • Alphabet (GOOGL/GOOG) — parent company of Google, YouTube, and Waze, with a nearly 90% share of worldwide online search.
  • Meta Platforms (META) — the social media company formerly known as Facebook, which also owns Instagram and WhatsApp.
  • Tesla (TSLA) — designs electric vehicles, advanced driver assistance technology, solar roofs, and home energy products. The only automaker in the group, though often classified alongside tech companies.

The Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (MAGS), which began trading in April 2023, is the first ETF specifically designed to track these seven stocks with equal-weight exposure, rebalanced quarterly.

All seven are among the top 10 largest companies in the world by market cap. Together, they alone made up 22% of the MSCI World Index, which tracks over 1,500 stocks across 23 developed countries.
