Largest Listed Companies Outside the US by Market Cap
The NYSE and Nasdaq together account for roughly 42% of global stock market value. The remaining majority is spread across dozens of exchanges — from the Saudi Exchange in Riyadh to Euronext in Amsterdam and the Taiwan Stock Exchange in Taipei. This page ranks the largest listed companies outside the United States by market capitalization, covering that non-U.S. universe.
Saudi Aramco, listed on the Tadawul, is the most valuable company headquartered outside the U.S. and the world’s largest oil producer by daily output. Close behind is TSMC, the Taiwanese pure-play semiconductor foundry that manufactures chips for Apple, AMD, and NVIDIA. Together, these two companies illustrate the range of sectors represented:
- Semiconductors & equipment: TSMC (Taiwan), Samsung Electronics (South Korea), ASML (Netherlands)
- Energy & resources: Saudi Aramco (Saudi Arabia), Shell (UK), PetroChina (China), BHP (Australia), Reliance Industries (India)
- Internet & technology: Tencent and Alibaba (China), both listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange
- Luxury goods: LVMH and Hermès, both traded on Euronext Paris
- Healthcare: Novo Nordisk (Nasdaq Copenhagen) and Roche (SIX Swiss Exchange)
- Banking: China’s “Big Four” state-backed banks, including ICBC and Bank of China
China contributes more companies to the non-U.S. top 50 than any other country, with names spanning tech, banking, energy, and even consumer staples — Kweichow Moutai, the distilled-liquor maker, is among them. Europe fields a strong contingent as well, though no European company has yet reached a trillion-dollar valuation. ASML, founded in 1984 as a joint venture between ASM and Philips, holds a near-monopoly in extreme ultraviolet lithography machines — equipment required to manufacture the most advanced chips on the planet.
