List of Companies in the FTSE All-World Index
Approximately 4,000 large and mid-cap stocks from nearly 50 countries make up the FTSE All-World Index, covering an estimated 90–95% of the world’s investable market capitalization. Managed by FTSE Russell — a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group — the index belongs to the FTSE Global Equity Index Series, which launched in September 2003. It classifies holdings using the ICB (Industry Classification Benchmark) system across 11 industries and 9 geographic regions.
The index uses a free float-adjusted, market-capitalization-weighted structure, meaning the world’s largest companies carry the most weight. US-based companies account for more than 60% of the total index weight, and the top 250 stocks alone represent roughly two-thirds of the entire index. The FTSE All-World is often considered FTSE Russell’s counterpart to the MSCI ACWI.
The largest holdings are dominated by US technology companies:
- Technology: NVIDIA, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta Platforms, Broadcom, TSMC
- Consumer Discretionary: Amazon, Tesla
- Financials, Industrials, Healthcare: Round out the remaining top sector exposures
The index is sub-divided into three country segments — Developed, Advanced Emerging, and Secondary Emerging — ensuring representation from markets as varied as the US, UK, Japan, Germany, Brazil, India, South Africa, and Australia. Technology is the single largest sector, followed by Financials, Consumer Goods, Industrials, and Healthcare.
Several widely held ETFs track this index. The Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF is available in both distributing (VWRL) and accumulating (VWCE) share classes, while the Vanguard FTSE All-World ex-US ETF (VEU) tracks the ex-US variant. You can find a broader selection on our world stock and index ETFs page.
