Largest Commodity Companies by Market Cap | Live Rankings
Saudi Aramco, founded in 1933 and listed on the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul), consistently ranks among the most valuable commodity companies in the world. It operates the Ghawar Field — the world’s largest onshore oil field — and the Safaniya Field, the largest offshore oil field. Its IPO raised US$25.6 billion, making it the largest IPO ever.
Commodity companies trade and process raw materials across three broad categories: energy, metals and minerals, and agricultural products. These firms are listed on exchanges worldwide, with the NYSE, LSE, ASX, Tadawul, and HKEX serving as primary trading venues.
Some of the largest commodity companies by market cap include:
- Energy: Saudi Aramco (Tadawul), ExxonMobil, Chevron (NYSE)
- Diversified mining: BHP (ASX/LSE), Rio Tinto (LSE/ASX), Glencore (LSE) — Glencore produces and markets over 60 commodities, combining trading and logistics with production
- Iron ore & nickel: Vale (NYSE/B3), the world’s largest producer of iron ore and nickel
- Gold & copper: Newmont (NYSE), Zijin Mining (HKEX/SSE), Southern Copper (NYSE)
- Fertilizers: CF Industries, Nutrien — dominant in nitrogen-based fertilizers and mined nutrients like potash and phosphate
BHP and Rio Tinto have historically been the only mining companies to maintain consistent market capitalizations above $100 billion. In gold mining, Zijin Mining holds a top global position alongside Newmont and Barrick Gold. Many of the largest oil and gas companies also appear in this ranking due to their scale in energy commodities.
