Top Green Energy & Renewable Energy Companies by Market Cap

NextEra Energy, listed on the NYSE, stands as the world’s largest producer of renewable energy from wind and solar sources — and the largest electric utility holding company by market capitalization in America. The renewable energy sector spans solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and biomass, with companies listed across exchanges in the United States, Europe, India, and China.

The sector includes three broad categories: pure-play renewable developers, equipment and technology manufacturers, and traditional utilities with large clean energy portfolios. Key players by sub-sector include:

  • Integrated renewable utilities: NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE), Iberdrola (BME: IBE) — founded in 1840 and operating across Europe, the Americas, and Australia — and Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE: BEP), which manages more than 25 GW of installed capacity across four continents.
  • Wind energy: Vestas Wind Systems (CPH: VWS), the Danish manufacturer that has installed more than 189 GW of wind capacity globally, and Orsted (CPH: ORSTED), a leader in offshore wind development.
  • Solar equipment & manufacturing: LONGi Green Energy Technology (SHA: 601012), a worldwide leader in solar module and wafer manufacturing, and First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR), the largest solar panel manufacturer in the United States, specializing in thin-film photovoltaic technology. See also our dedicated list of solar energy companies.
  • Clean energy technology: GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV), covering wind turbines and grid electrification infrastructure, Enphase Energy (NASDAQ: ENPH), focused on inverters and battery solutions, and Canadian Solar (NASDAQ: CSIQ), which has shipped more than 165 GW of solar modules since its founding in 2001.
  • Emerging-market leaders: Adani Green Energy (NSE: ADANIGR), India’s largest renewable energy company, and Suzlon Energy (NSE: SUZLON), a pioneer in Indian wind energy manufacturing.

Between 2010 and 2024, the cost of utility-scale solar PV fell roughly 90% and onshore wind fell about 70%, making renewables increasingly competitive with fossil fuels. Globally, hydropower remains the largest modern renewable source, though wind and solar are both growing rapidly. The iShares Global Clean Energy ETF (ICLN) tracks the S&P Global Clean Energy Index for those seeking broad sector exposure.
